Welcome to The North East of England Championships 2011.

On behalf  of Clann na nGael  we would like to extend to you all
a very warm North East welcome to our 19th annual event.

We have an impressive group of adjudicators and musicians, and look forward to the very high standard of dancing our event always attracts.

 Open and prelim championships will run as two separate competitions,  which will  include seperate solo results in both. A set dance recall will be reintroduced in open championships from under 10  upwards.There will be a  parade of all champions at the end of each day, which will include open, prelim and local champions.

Included  is a provisional timetable, a final timetable will be issued to all entered schools, and will also be published on our  web site.

There will be  a full canteen service providing both hot and cold food throughout the duration of the weekend.

We look forward to seeing you all, and thank you for your continued support.

THOSE DANCERS WHO DO NOT RECALL IN OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP MAY ENTER SET DANCE COMPETITION ON THE DAY, WITH NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE

PRELIM CHAMPIONSHIPS OPEN TO DANCERS FROM ALL REGIONS.  
AGE GROUPS: 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17
RULES: Dancers are not eligible to compete in Prelim if they have:-
(1) Placed in the top five in a mixed championship in either 2009 or 2010
(2) Previously won two prelim championships  
(3)  Attained world medal status in any age group. A prelim championship must have a minimum of 5 competitors. The prelim championship will be danced at the beginning of the open championship, a prelim result will be given from two rounds. Solo results will also be given in the two rounds of the prelim championship.
A Prelim entry cannot be accepted on the day of the championships.Prelim results do not effect grade status.

TROPHY TREBLE REEL (COR)

AGE GROUPS:-UNDER  11 12 13 15 17 & SENIORS
OPEN TO ALL OPEN DANCERS, DANCERS ARE REQUIRED TO DANCE 16 BARS IN REEL TIME. THIS IS A FREESTYLE COMPETITION WHICH SHOULD CONTAIN NO INAPPROPRIATE MOVEMENTS, AND COSTUMES SHOULD COMPLY WITH THE CURRENT AN COIMISIUN COSTUME REGULATIONS.

DANCES: 2, 3 & 6 HAND TEACHERS OWN COMPOSITION. TRADITIONAL 4 & 8 HAND FROM AR RINCI FOIRNE

RULES GOVERNING FEIS

  1. Entries with fees to reach feis secretary on or before SATURDAY 18TH DECEMBER 2011
  2. All entries must be signed by registered teachers.
  3. Age to be taken from the 1ST of January 2011.
  4. The adjudicator’s decision is final.
  5. Beginners competitions are open to dancers who have never won 1st  place in that particular dance, in any age group.The Beginner Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Beginners reel and have not previously won a Trophy Reel competition in any age group. Only basic steps to be performed.
  6. Primary competitions are open to dancers who have never won a 1st  place in that particular dance in any age group. (Excluding beginners) The Primary Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Primary Trophy Reel and have not previously won a Primary Trophy Reel competition in any age group.
  7. If there are 15 or more competitors in any Beginners competition, the 1st, 2nd & 3rd placed dancers will move up to the next grade. If there are less than 15 dancers, only the 1st placed dancer will regrade.
  8. Beginner & Primary competitions are OPEN  to all regions, dancers must wear either a class costume, or a skirt/trousers and top.
  9. Intermediate competitions are open to dancers who have never won 1st  place in that particular dance in their present age group. The Intermediate Trophy Reel is confined to dancers who have danced the Intermediate Reel and have not previously won an Intermediate Trophy Reel in their present age group.
  10. Where there are 5 or less competitors in a solo competition grades will not be effected. However a dancer may only win 3 such competitions, & then they will move to the next grade.
  11. With the exception of the under 6 & under 7 age group, a competitor who has won an open championship must dance in the open grade in the calender year in which the open championship was won.
  12. Any dancer in the under 6 & under 7 age groups who have previously won a championship must dance open for the dances performed in the championship. They are eligible to dance the other dances in the appropriate grades.
  13. Teams may contain up to 75% from a younger age group. A dancer may only compete in one team in the same age group, ie  one 2 hand one 3 hand etc,  the only exception to this would be where a dancer, dances a mixed and unmixed ceili 8 hand team.
  14. Competitors must be present when their competitions are called, otherwise they may lose their right to dance.
  15.  Dancers must compete in solo competitions in order to dance premiers or open championships. (Under 6yr to under 9yr age groups).
  16. All premier, prelim and championship cups are perpetual trophies
    and must be returned when requested, in good time for the following years event.
  17. The recipient / guardian is responsible for any loss or damage to trophies whilst in their possession.
  18. Any objections to be made in writing and handed to feis secretary with a fee of £20.00. If the objection is sustained the fee will be returned. The objection must be lodged within one hour after the completion of the competition.
  19. Dancers must be suitably dressed at all times. Changing facilities will be provided, therefore there should be no changing in the public areas.
  20. No video or digital cameras, or flash photography to be taken during competitions. All mobile phones and electronic games must be switched off in dancing areas. .
  21. No hairsprays or aerosols to be used in dancing areas.
  22. No smoking or consumption of Alcohol is allowed in the building.
  23. Any competitor found to be using artificial/carriage aids and subsequently refuses to remove them will be subject to disqualification from that particular competition. Medical prescribed apparatus (proof of which may be required) will be exempt from this ruling.
  24. The feis organisors will as far as reasonably practical provide suitable surfaces for dancing. However they cannot accept any liability for injuries sustained whilst dancing. The lodgement of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by a dancer.
  25. All North East teachers are asked to submit copy entries to the regional records clerk: Louise Killen  on or before Monday 10th January A £20.00 fine will be imposed by the NERC for non receipt.
  26. The Feis committee reserves the right to cancel or amend any competition – teachers will be notified of any changes.

The grade solos have been listed as single age groups, should there be insufficient entries in these competitions, we will revert to double age groups. (ie less than 5 competitors).

No make up can be used by Beginner and Primary dancers, up to and including under 12yrs.

No block or en-pointe steps, moving or stationary can be performed in age groups upto and including under 12 yrs.

On the Saturday evening of the Feis there will be a social evening held for everyone to come along and enjoy:-  venue Village Hotel Newcastle NE27 0BY approximate start 20.00

Direction to the Feis:

By Rail
If arriving from Newcastle Central Station. Take the Metro for Monument. Change at Monument for Wallsend. Alight at Wallsend exit left on to station
Road the Memorial hall is approximately 400 yds on your left.

 By Car: Approaching from the North A1
Leave the A1 at the junction indicating A19 Tyne Tunnel. Continue on
the A19, leaving at Junction signposted A193 Wallsend, at the top of the slip road there is a roundabout, take the 3rd exit follow signs Wallsend for approximately 2 miles. This will bring you on to the main High street of Wallsend at the second set of traffic lights turn left on to Station road,
take the first right the Memorial Hall is on your right.		 By Car Approaching from the South A1 (M).
After passing Washington services take the A194(M) (sign Post Tyne Tunnel) Continue following signs to the Tyne Tunnel. Once through the Tunnel turn left at the roundabout on to the A19. Exit at the first junction signpost A193 Wallsend, turn left at the top of the slip road. Continue following signs Wallsend for approximately 2 miles. This will bring you on to the main High street of Wallsend at the second set of traffic lights turn left on to Station road, take the first right the Memorial Hall is on your right.		 By Car Approaching from the West A69
From the A69, cross over the A1 to A186 and at the next roundabout take the A191 left. Follow the signs for A167 to A167(M) City Bypass. Take
the exit left onto the A1058 sign post (Tynemouth). Proceed straight ahead at the first roundabout and continue through 3 sets of traffic lights. Continue along the A1058 for approximately 2.5 mile leaving at the 3rd junction signpost A186 Wallsend. At the top of the slip road there is a roundabout, take the 3rd exit sign post Wallsend, follow the road for ½ mile. At the second set of traffic lights go ahead and take the first right the Memorial Hall is on your Right.
